Workshop Format

Breast massage is an effective treatment for breast pain, breast scars, and common breast symptoms like congestion. Many women admit that they are reluctant to perform breast self examinations because they are afraid of finding a lump - often they also don't feel confident they are doing it properly. Despite the knowledge and palpation skill that massage therapists have, many are reluctant to offer breast massage and feel uncomfortable discussing breast health issues with clients.

This workshop covers the anatomy and common pathologies of the breast. It offers ways to communicate in a sensitive, client-centred way about issues that are charged for most women. Breast tissue health care needs are talked about in the context of how massage therapy can play an important role in supporting breast health. It offers participants the technical and interpersonal skills they need to be able to provide appropriate and effective breast massage treatments.

Instructional strategies include practical hands-on sessions, role plays, group discussion, and lecture presentations with audiovisuals.
